The team here at Milwood Group have been busy reflecting on the many projects that we have supplied to over the course of 2022 to see what learning we can take from the year. As part of this, we pulled data from our records on the optional features we have sold to identify trends within the industry, such as additional upgrades and which type of glazing is in demand.

One interesting finding was the sizeable difference between our two glazing options, polycarbonate and glass. Each option has its benefits, as well as variables that must be considered for both budget and design, but much of this can also depend on the homeowner’s preference or our Trade Partner’s project upselling, too. The data showed, though, a large lead for glass over polycarbonate in our 2022 sales.

Polycarbonate roofing is a popular option for those on tighter budgets and has proved to be a cost-effective alternative to glass. Along with this it also has benefits such as UV protection elements to shield those underneath on sunnier days. It is also durable yet lightweight to support hassle-free installation and provides excellent longevity. Available in clear, opal, and bronze as standard you can upgrade to our 16mm grey heat-guard option. It can also help protect against discolouration.

However, it is plain to see why glass would be the more popular option should homeowners be caught in two minds. Not only does it provide an arguably more aesthetically pleasing finish and allow for more panoramic views but the tinted and self-cleaning upgrade options available provide additional value and benefit. The glass helps to reduce noise from rainfall and birds who may land on the roofing panels and also protects users through UV protection elements.
