If you are in need of a carport and you are at the first stages of making the important decisions such as the design of the carport, we have put together some information to help you in your mission. There are three main carport designs; wall mounted, cantilevered and free standing. I have listed each carport type and gone through the main points of each to help you choose the design that would be best for you.
Wall Mounted Carports
Wall Mounted carports are generally the most cost effective option. They are quick and easy to install and can be installed by yourself or a qualified fitter. A wall mounted carport is the most popular design as it offers homeowners everything they need from a carport system and it fits in perfectly with both modern and traditional building types.
Cantilevered Carports
Cantilever carports require a strong structural wall to be fixed to as they can put strain on the wall, you also need to prepare for poor weather conditions such as heavy snow and high winds due to the reduced wind and snow loading capabilities of a cantilevered carport. These types of structures will need to be installed by a qualified installer as the structure will be reliant on the fixings into your external wall.
Free Standing
Free standing carports are generally the most costly design yet they are ideal for those that cannot have a carport fixed to a wall. Again it is advised that a free standing carport is installed by a qualified installer as the installation process can be more complicated.
Summary
Overall it appears that the wall mounted design is the best “all-rounder” as fits into most budgets and offers the benefits that most homeowners look for in a carport design. Our Simplicity Range includes wall mounted carports to suit all budgets, choose from the Simplicity 35, the Simplicity 16 or the Simplicity 6.
