The best verandas and outside structures can look stunning. However, their beauty can be enhanced even further by placing plants in and around the structure. There are many benefits of placing plants in these areas including:

There are thousands of plants available for any veranda and outside structure and choosing the right plants can be challenging. There’s an element of personal choice, but there are some great options available. Here’s our choice of plants that would look great on your veranda or an outside structure.
- Marigolds – A stable for garden centres, marigolds are perfect for any space. They are bright and are known to repel pests. They are also low maintenance.
- Begonias – These are easy to grow in a light shady area and will bloom nicely throughout the summer.
- Fuchsia – This plant loves the shade and is great on the ground but really looks its best in a hanging basket.
- Heliotrope – If you love fragrant flowers, then this is one for you. It can grow up to 50cm tall and has dark green leaves.
- Coleus – A tall plant that can reach 100cm, this plant has distinctive serrated leaves. There are numerous varieties with different colours of foliage.
- Hosta – This low maintenance plant loves the shade. It’s available in a wide range of colours including green, blue, white and gold. Its foliage also comes in many shapes.
- Ferns – These love the shade and grow well in flower beds and plant pots. They are also very good at offering additional privacy and cutting out noise.
- Cosmos – If you want to add a cottage-like feel to the area, this plant does that well. It works well on its own or with other plants.
- Busy Lizzies – This plant loves the shade but looks stunning when it’s flowering which it can do well into autumn if you deadhead it regularly.
