On May 31st 2015, fenestration companies will no longer be able to solely self-declare their staff members skills on a staff company register.
As from 1st June 2015, inspectors from FENSA (the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme) will check that at least one MTC compliant installer is assigned to each fitting team and that all surveyors are MTC compliant for the range of work they carry out.
Adhering to the new requirement wil require you to hold either an industry recognised skills card such as a FENSA MTC card or a relevant fenestration NVQ qualification.
Companies will still be required to continue to maintain a register of approved surveyors and installers that must be available to FENSA along with the above mentioned card or qualification.
As it currently stands companies are able to deem their staff as competent by ‘self-declaring’ two years’ of industry experience on a staff competency register, but this approach will also no longer be acceptable from 31st May 2015.
You can find out more information about the routes to compliance and apply for an MTC card by visiting by visiting the FENSA website here.
